SAINT-PRIVAT / XAINTRIE / LAC DE FEYT
When you stop at the Auberge de la Xaintrie, you're in Saint-Privat, in the heart of the traditional Corrèze region. Saint-Privat is ideally situated in the centre of the ‘Xaintrie blanche’, between the Dordogne valley and the Auvergne mountains. This is a wild, hilly region whose relative isolation has enabled it to preserve a generous natural environment that is home to unique wildlife, a high quality rural life and a rich traditional heritage. Enthusiasts can explore the vast forests, rolling hills and refreshing rivers of the Dordogne Basin, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, on lovely walks, bike rides or horse rides.
Our charming, typical village, with its stone houses and slate roofs, offers an ideal stopover in an authentic, peaceful setting during an evening stopover north-west of Aurillac or on your holiday route between the Auvergne and Quercy.
Nearby, visitors can discover remarkable sites such as the Merle Towers, an impressive medieval fortress nestling on a rocky spur in the heart of the Maronne gorges, and the Middle Ages farms, an astonishing reconstruction of authentic 15th-century farms.
Surrounded by wooded hills, the Feyt lake is a great playground for outdoor enthusiasts, with its leisure centre (swimming, pedal boats, canoes, fishing, picnics, etc.). The whole region is an invitation to discover, combining adventure, unspoilt nature and historical heritage.
A little further afield, the picturesque villages of Argentat on the banks of the Dordogne, Salers in the Haute-Auvergne and Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, the jewel in the crown of the upper Dordogne valley, are well worth a visit. As are Mauriac and its basilica, the largest Romanesque building in Cantal, and the impressive Rochers Noirs viaduct spanning the Luzège gorges.
You'll see that there's no shortage of things to see and do around our hostel. We'll be delighted to advise you!
